More about life on Orchard Farm, Monkleigh in North Devon
Getting to know where your food comes from and teaching children to love the countryside is so easy at Orchard Farm! We are transparent, very happy to discuss dairy and show you round our lovely Devon farm.
You and your family can come milking, feed the calves and help with day-to-day farm life. Let us know and we shall make sure you get to witness any calvings that happen during your stay. We calve all year round, so you may well be in luck.
Orchard Farm hosts a huge variety of British wildlife. We are proud to maintain this haven for everything from hares to hedgehogs, barn owls to buzzards and so much more. Our returning swift families are a true marvel.
We do all we can to be green aware and have installed solar water heating systems across the farm and the milking parlour. We recycle everything possible through Torridge District Council and have lots of home compost bins, as well as growing a huge amount of produce ourselves. Our very spoilt chickens do offer up some eggs each day, though only when it suits them. Don’t worry though, no roosters crowing at crazy hours!
Our carefully bred pedigree Friesian dairy cows produce top quality farm assured, Red Tractor checked milk. This is collected by a local producer and is turned into gorgeous mature chedder
Your hosts, Les and Sue, know the local sites and activities. They will make you feel very welcome and are usually around for questions and queries. You may also meet their son Mike, who is responsible for the day to day running of the farm and his wife Alice. They can all help you with anything you may need.
We really hope to see you soon, here at Orchard Farm!
